At Kersey Mobility, we love hearing uplifting stories about people in our community coming together and helping those with disabilities.
After an uneven bar accident, Jacoby Miles, a 15 -year-old gymnast from Puyallup, was paralyzed. She landed on her neck while practicing on the uneven bars earlier this month but fortunately, did not sever her spinal cord.
The Team Jacoby Fund (http://goteamjacoby.com) has been set up to help collect money for her medical expenses, and it is so great to hear that in just one week, $60,000 had been raised. We love hearing news like this from our communities! The goal is to raise $75,000, so if you are interested in helping out Jacoby with her medical expenses that will undoubtedly rack up on her road to recovery, visit the website to make a donation.
Along with the Team Jacoby fund, Vans4kids.com is also helping with funds towards a mobility van. Vans4kids.com was started by Kersey Mobility and Vantage Mobility to help out families in need. The corporate sponsors helped provide the conversion for the van that Larson Automotive Group donated.
Another way you can help is by attending this event for Jacoby on December 17th. A dinner and auction will be hosted at the Temple Theater in Tacoma, WA. Former Washington Huskies and Seattle Seahawks quarterback Brock Huard will emcee and former Evening Magazine host John Curley will be the auctioneer. There will also be several U.S. Olympians, who are yet to be named also at the event.
We certainly hope that Jacoby makes a full recovery and back to her normal life quick. It always helps to have a positive and encouraging community around to support you, and those of us at Kersey Mobility are proud to be part of it.
